What is Populatia

Why Populatia

Wikipedia is one of the biggest things that has happened on the Internet. It has been amazing how much it has grown and how the unified collaboration of people can create something so invaluably useful.

When Jimmy Wales made the popular comment, "Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That's what we're doing.", we stood up and applauded - It is really impressive to take up such a bold and massive challenge.

But one thing that did strike us was that "information is not knowledge". Wikipedia allows people pages only if people have the "notability" factor (knowledge), but what if you wanted to know about someone who has never done something notable (information). What if others wanted to read about you, Wikipedia-style, but then you had done nothing that would "qualify" you to have a page in Wikipedia?

And thus, Populatia was born.

We have a simple vision. Provide a platform for every individual to create a page here. We hope that your exploits become notable tomorrow (famous and hopefully not notorious) and you get a Wikipedia page for yourself. But until then and if you don't, you have always got Populatia :)
