What is Populatia

Ever wanted to have a wikipedia page, but was not able to have one because there was nothing that you have done that is notable? :)

Populatia is a wiki installation where you can create your own page! You are the owner of all the content that you write about you. Create your own Populatia page today!

There are a few things about Populatia that you should know before you start out creating your page:

1. Populatia is a wiki ONLY for people. Please create pages only about yourself.

2. Do not create pages for places, events or any other things.

3. You can link to Wikipedia for any events, places or other articles that you are using in your page. In fact, you are encouraged to do so!

4. You can create only one page using an account.Your page title would be unique - think of it as your secondary username in the site.

5. You can write any information about yourself. Write your own information in third person. Even though it might look awkward to do write about yourself in third person, it is much better for people who read it. :)

6. Unlike other wikis, Populatia provides you with the sole right to edit the content of your page. Nobody else will be able to edit your page. This is so that vandalism is kept at a bare minimum, and that people with same names do not over-write each other's pages.

7. Please keep Populatia clean and be truthful in what you write. Keep the spirit of the great Wikipedia!

How do I create my Populatia page?

Well, for starters, you need to register yourself. Use the log in/create account link on the top right of the screen to register yourself.

Once registered, type in your name in the search box and press GO.

If somebody else has already created a Populatia page with the same name, you will be redirected to that article. In such a case, you will need to try to create your Populatia page with a new name.

If the Populatia page name you entered is available, you will be redirected to a screen where you will get the following message:

There is no page titled "<Populatia page title you entered>". You can create this page.

Click on the 'create this page' hyperlink to create your Populatia page.

Populatia is a mediawiki installation and hence, allows all the editing possibilities of wikipedia. While editing your Populatia page, check the buttons on the top of the editor, that provides all the editing options required to create a proper Populatia page.

We know that Infoboxes are NOT working currently in populatia, and we are trying to figure out how to get them working. If there is any mediawiki guru out there who can help us, it would be deeply appreciated.

For the absolute newbies, you can get started by going to sample page and copy the contents into your page and editing them.
